Jeff Smalley - Lead Pastor
Dear Friends in Christ,
My name is Jeff Smalley. I am excited to become your new pastor beginning July 1st. I will join you in worshipping our awesome God on June 30th where I will share my first message of Christ’s redeeming love. I thought you might like to know a few things about me. I was born and raised in the north end of Columbus. For most of my childhood and early adult years I attended Church of the Master UMC in Westerville Ohio. I met my best friend at Northland High School. Her name is Kathy. After we both graduated from The Ohio State University (OH - ), we married in 1980. We have a daughter, Lauren, who is 27 years old and lives in Houston Texas (she hates cold weather). I was a member of The Ohio State University Marching Band. No, I never dotted the “I” since I played the baritone horn.
After a couple years of teaching music, I ended up taking a different path into computer science, working for Highlights For Children Magazine in Columbus. I stayed in music through the church as I was the Director of Music at Minerva Park UMC in north Columbus. About half way through my music ministry, I had a deep spiritual renewal which led to a calling to pastoral ministry. I began as a student pastor in 1992, graduated from METHESCO in 1996, and have pastored churches in West Ohio since. I come to you having been the pastor of South Charleston UMC (Miami Valley District) and Newport UMC (Capital Area South) for the past 7 years.
